Summer 2012 Poll

What’s the best way to experience summer in the Holy Land?

Telephone

The telephone service in Israel is world-class. Currently PalTel the only telecommunication company operating in Palestine and provides state-of-the-art technology and advanced services across the Palestinian communities.

The country-code for Israel and the Palestinian Territories is 972 (Palestine is 970 from Jordan and other Arab countries). Israeli and Palestinian area codes commence with a zero (e.g. 02-123-4567), so if you calling Israel from overseas, drop the zero (i.e. +972-2-123-4567).

Jordan offers a variety of customized personal services to suit your every need, enriching the way you stay in touch. The international dialing code for Jordan is +962.

Cell phones

If you hold a cell-phone and/or handheld wireless device that is programmed for international service, it will work automatically in Israel and Palestine. Alternatively, cell-phones can be rented as soon as you arrive in Israel.

Cellcom with prefix 052 and Orange with prefix 054 both operate services within Israel,  while there are two world class mobile operators working in Palestine. Jawwal Mobile (www.jawwal.ps) with a prefix 059. The second mobile carrier which will soon become operations is Wataniya Mobile with a prefix 056.

Zain with prefix 079, Umniah 078 and Orange mobiles 078 are available within Jordan.

Public phones

There are public phones throughout Israel, Palestine and Jordan. You’ll need to buy a magnetic card o use them: they’re readily available at newsstands, supermarkets, post offices or at your hotel front desk.

Internet and E-mail

Almost every hotel has internet access – in-room and/or wi-fi and/or at its Business Center. Internet cafes are to be found everywhere too. Laptops are always dual-voltage so all you’ll need is a European-style two-pin converter plug that will work in Israel, Palestine and Jordan.

The Post Office

Post offices are everywhere in Israel and Jordan, and are the ideal place to buy stamps, mail letters or packages. Most hotels’ front desks or concierges have stamps too. Unfortunately, due to Israeli Occupation restrictions, the postal service in Palestine is very limited and we advise you to send postcards etc while in Israel or Jordan.  All three countries have good access to international couriers.
